Blissed out in the Pennines

I have been known to partake of a spa experience; there’s nothing like treating yourself to a bit of pamper time. It all kick started with a trip to the fabulous Titanic Spa with my best friend a few years ago. We got an amazing deal on Travel Zoo, which included heaps of treatments and an overnight stay. Shrewd marketing by Titanic as I went back 3 more times paying much more and taking various people with me.

Travelling the world, The Boy and I decided to have at least one massage in each country (see blog “A Well Earned Massage“) which resulted in much hilarity (including a naked ayurvedic massage) and some serious healing hands with the Massage By Blind in Cambodia.

Since returning to Yorkshire, we have been a bit financially tight and now with saving for a wedding, treats should be few and far between – but we did get some spends for Christmas and decided to have a treatment.

Yorkshire sees to have a plethora of places for a bit of R and R, but we decided in the end to opt for the alternative Alexandra House Spa in Huddersfield. Set up by Maxine, a local businesswoman and former nurse; the spa is housed in an old property in Edgerton. There are no saunas Jacuzzis or a pool – but there are great treatments, a warm welcome and delicious smoothies.

We took the Massage Heaven package at £65 each. This included a welcome drink, foot soak, robes, slippers, paraffin hand wax (weird but nice), an Indian Head Massage, Hot Stone Massage and another drink and a cake.

We couldn’t fault the experience really – a lovely 2.5 hours… although I did fail to stay hydrated when we left the spa… unless a bottle of red wine and 2 sols counts towards my water intake?
