I am lucky enough to work in a beautiful setting. My office is based in Dean Clough in Halifax, which was at one time the largest carpet mill in the entire world! Now it houses a host of businesses, restaurants, bars, creative organisations, a theatre and a cooking school.
I get to walk past amazing exhibitions on my way to the toilet every day… makes that particular journey a bit less dull!
There are two really intriguing exhibitions on at the moment, one is called ‘Come and See’ in the Seminar Gallery which has the most eye watering floor pattern I have ever seen. But the one which I am continually drawn to at the moment is ‘Bear with Me’ which is in the Illustration Gallery. Between October 2012 and November 2013, a sketch book visited 30 illustrators around the UK and each one of them continued the story about an adventurous red bear. These illustrators are a bunch of extremely talented dudes.
The exhibition displays the sketches from each illustrator which will form a book due to be auctioned off with all proceeds going to Great Ormond Street Hospital. I just love the irreverent way that each illustrator has taken the bear (Lawrence is his name) on adventures including a rollercoaster, hairdresser and potential arranged marriage with a MerBear! It’s just enchanting!
